About the Role
We’re a relationship focused community bank serving Texas businesses and families. We’re seeking a seasoned credit professional who can wear two hats: (1) lead advanced commercial underwriting (C&I / CRE) and portfolio analytics, and (2) oversee and manage special assets/workout problem loan portfolio through resolution. May include but not limited to; structure complex credits, drive portfolio quality, own problem loan strategies (restructures, forbearance, collateral/liquidation), and deliver strong recoveries while partnering with lenders, credit administration, and executive leadership to drive quality growth while reducing risk and delivering borrower first solutions.
What You’ll Do
Underwriting & Portfolio Quality (≈50%)
• Lead end to end underwriting for C&I, CRE, owner occupied CRE, and specialty credits, from initial structure to final approval memo.
• Build robust cash flow models, global debt service analyses, rent rolls, CRE stress scenarios (rate/NOI/value), and guarantor analyses.
• Recommend structures (collateral, covenants, guarantees, pricing) aligned to policy, risk appetite, and market conditions.
• Maintain accurate risk ratings, trend monitoring, and early warning indicators; support quarterly portfolio reviews and concentration reporting.
Special Assets / Problem Loan Management (≈50%)
• Own a portfolio of criticized/classified relationships, developing action plans (forbearance, restructure, pay down, collateral enhancement, exit) with measurable milestones.
• Lead workouts end to end: borrower negotiations, document modifications, appraisal reviews, liquidation paths, and legal strategy with external counsel.
• Manage OREO and collateral disposition to maximize recovery and minimize carrying time.
• Drive timely charge off recommendations, impairment measurement/CECL inputs, and Board/Regulator reporting for adversely graded credits.
• Chair/coordinate Watch List meetings and prepare executive dashboards on trends, recoveries, and upcoming risks.
Risk, Policy & Regulatory
• Ensure adherence to loan policy, appraisal/evaluation standards, flood compliance, BSA/AML red flags, Reg O/W, and fair lending expectations.
• Contribute to policy enhancements, model/stress testing assumptions, and exam/audit responses.
Collaboration & Leadership
• Coach bankers on structure, covenants, and borrower level de risking; elevate credit culture through clear feedback.
• Partner with Loan Ops, Special Assets, and Legal to streamline processes and reduce cycle time.
What You’ll Bring
• 7+ years commercial credit/portfolio experience in banking, including 3+ years leading special assets/workouts; community bank experience strongly preferred.
• Expertise with CRE cash flows, global cash flow, borrowing base facilities, collateral valuations, and legal remedies under Texas law (UCC, foreclosure basics, guaranty enforcement).
• Strong command of risk ratings, criticized/classified management, and regulatory expectations.
• Advanced Excel/financial modeling; familiarity with common core/LOS platforms (e.g., Jack Henry, Fiserv, nCino, or similar).
• Bachelor’s in Finance/Accounting/Economics (MBA, CRC/Credit Risk Certification, or CFA L1 a plus).
• Clear, concise credit writing and confident presentation skills with bankers, leadership, and examiners.

• Credit cycle time and underwriting quality (exception rates, rework).
• Reduction in criticized/classified balances and timely resolution against action plan milestones.
• Recoveries vs. plan, time to resolution, and documentation completeness.
• Quality of risk insights provided to leadership and Board.
Work Arrangement & Travel
• Remote out of (your location) with bi-weekly on site in person to West Houston DPO and Liberty, Tx for loan committee.
• Occasional travel for inspections, counsel meetings, and dispositions.
